GWA Indoor Wingfoil World Cup boot Düsseldorf 2026

A race against time on the pool in the exhibition hall

The first weekend of the boot trade show in Düsseldorf marked the first event of 2026 for the wing foilers on the GWA Tour. As in the previous year, the venue was Hall 17, where a 62-meter-long pool and 84 wind machines awaited the six female and 12 male participants.

Individual races against the clock were on the schedule, with a total of EUR 5,000 in prize money up for grabs. It wasn’t necessarily an event for racers - it was mainly the surf freestylers from the GWA Tour who competed to pad their travel funds.

After the heats on Saturday, things really heated up in the finals on Sunday. The number of laps to be completed was increased, which clearly benefited the Spaniard Ancor Sosa in particular.

While Balz Müller and Alan Fedit posted the fastest times on Saturday, Ancor Sosa was unbeatable on the longer course on Sunday. With a time of about 42 seconds, he won the men’s division ahead of Balz Müller (43:48) and Franz Schlittenbauer (43:90).

"I'm so happy to be back at boot Düsseldorf and really excited. We all had so much fun together. Every second in the pool is so much fun", says Ancor Sosa about the indoor competition.

In the women’s division, Nia Suardiaz repeated her victory from last year. At one point, the Spanish athlete even made it into the men’s top 10 with the ninth-fastest time. "It was awesome to be here again and to win once more... It’s great to see people coming here to watch", says the wing foiler.

The next stop on the GWA tour will take place in Leucate starting April 21, where the surf freestyle event will be held. At the boot trade show, the competition in the pool will continue this coming weekend for freestyle windsurfers and stand-up paddlers.
