Switch Stance Tack

The tack in switch stance as a slideshow

A tack is a change of riding direction into the wind (upwind). This maneuver is easiest to perform in switch stance. You can see the sequence of movements in the picture series. The photographer was in the water on the inside radius of the turn and photographed David during the switch stance tack.

Here is a short summary of the movement sequence: Pull the wing back tight and go upwind. When riding into the wind, move the wing forward over your head and grip the front handle with your back hand. Then guide the wing to the inside of the turn and reach back with the other hand. During this phase, make sure you stay smoothly on the foil, as this is when you are most likely to crash out of the turn, e.g. because you have liftet your foil too high out of the water while you concentrate on changing the grip. By holding the wing with both hands, you can now build up power again and reduce the turn radius to get back on a crosswind course more quickly.
