Backwind Tack

Fly a tack with the wing held back

The backwind tack is nothing more than the second part of a Downwind 360e or a tack while riding backwinded.

However, this variation of the tack can also be performed while riding in switch stance: lift the wing to windward, tilt the lower wingtip backward, and push the entire wing backward. At the same time, initiate the turn to windward by applying pressure to your toes and pushing against the wind, which is now blowing into the wing from the other side.

When sailing to windward, the wing quickly catches the wind again from the correct side. You can accelerate this process by pulling your rear hand toward your hip and stretching your front arm to windward. This quickly restores power in the normal sailing position — and you've completed a backwind tack.
