Carving a sharp turn
Carving is one of the most fun things in wingfoiling. You carve a turn by banking the board hard to make a sharp turn with a narrow radius. The foil cuts through the sea surface and it is important to guide it cleanly so that the flow does not stall.
Before carving to windward, you can take a short leeward swing and then initiate a tight turn into the wind with a lot of pressure on the back foot. The wind is welcome to blow a little harder, because wind pressure provides stability in the wing – you need that to be able to relieve the board better at the end of the turn.
At the end of the carved turn, the body's centre of gravity has to be brought back over the board and the ride has to be stabilised. The front foot pushes the board from a beam reach to a broad reach.
Initially, the foil will stall frequently, but this can be mastered with a little practice.
