Switching stance (flying)

How to adjust your foot position

Changing feet while riding on the foil (i.e. while flying on the foil) is a very sensitive matter, as the board reacts to every change in load. If you lift your back foot, your body weight applies downward pressure to the front of the board. If you then put your foot down, there is an immediate new impulse – not only to go up and down, but also to tilt the board sideways (= cornering).

The whole process requires a lot of practice. To test the board's reaction, you can try lifting one foot slightly and briefly while stabilising your ride with the other foot.

Small steps on the board help to minimise any rolling motion. Before changing feet, lighten yourself (hang your weight onto the wing) and gently put your foot down in the new position.

Stefan Spiessberger shows how to change foot position when foiling in the video tutorial above.
