Donkey Kick
Airtime with foil ahead
The donkey kick is a variation of jumping with a wing foil board. The board is turned in the air at right angles to the direction of travel: with the tail to the wind and the nose to leeward.
The board is additionally lifted during the jump, with the bootom of the board pointing exactly in the direction of flight and the leeward rail towards the water.
You can imagine the jump as if you wanted to burst an imaginary balloon that is flying at head height in front of you. To catch this balloon with the foil, the foil has to go up. The aim is therefore to fly towards the balloon with the foil in front of you.
For this to work, the board needs to be as high up in the air as possible. It is therefore actively pulled upwards in front of the body when jumping, then the hips turn to leeward. The front leg is stretched out, the back leg is bent sharply. So the board turns out of the wind, the foil comes up and... shreds the balloon.
The higher the jump, the longer you can stay in this position. The body is turned back for landing.
