Downwind 360

How to fly through the entire 360 degree turn

The downwind 360 is a foiled circle. The aim is to fly through the entire 360-degree turn. You need speed to stay on the foil, that's why you start with a race jibe.

After 180 degrees, lift the wing slightly, push it back and feel the wind that now blows into the wing from the other side. This can be easily controlled by turning the wing backwards with the lower wing tip (lift the rear hand, lower the front hand, move the wing backwards slightly).

The board remains in the carving position throughout the entire downwind 360, so you also have to lean yourself against the wind in the backwinded riding position. This is how you continue to generate power.

Now comes the sticking point: As the turn progresses, the leading edge of the wing is opened to windward so that the wind can approach the wing from the right side again. Stretch your front arm, pull your back arm in close. The wing is stable in the air, you can really pull yourself around on it. This helps to make the turn even tighter (more cornering stability).

After just 3/4 of the downwind 360, the wing is turned further in the new direction. Carve tight and sheet in the wing at the last section of the turn to generate power to stay on the foil.
