Enter the water with your wing foil equipment

How to get your wing foil stuff safely onto the water at surf spots

The biggest hurdle at a surf spot is getting into the water. The power of even small shorebreak waves should not be underestimated and a board that you cannot hold on to quickly becomes a danger to people and equipment.

So what can you do if you can't launch from behind a pier or other wave covert areas?

Patience is required, as waves run onto the beach in sets. There are always phases when the water surface is calmer.

This is how you prepare: The board is held with one hand on the windward side of the body, with the nose pointing towards the water and the foil to windward. The other hand holds the wing to leeward.

Now watch the surface of the water. It can sometimes take a few minutes to catch a favorable moment with smaler waves. Take advantage of this and move forward quickly with the nose of the board (at a 90-degree angle to the wave) into deeper water. Hold the board firmly and push it into the water.

As soon as you reach a position that is deep enough for your foil, get on the board, let go of the wing and paddle further out.
