Flag Jibe

Foil the jibe with a flagged wing

The flag jibe is a jibe that is initiated with a flagged wing. Flagged means that the wing is held at the front by the leading edge handle and drifts at the leeward side - like a flag in the wind.

The wing is held in this position when riding down the wave, as the ride on the wave provides the drive for foiling and the wing is kept as neutral as possible.

At the end of a wave ride, for example, a jibe is required to change direction. And this is exactly where the flag jibe comes into action.

During the jibe, the wing is lifted from the neutral position and controlled again with both hands.

This move can also be practiced on flat water, as you can see here in the video. To do this, simply flag the wing, keep going by lightly pumping the foil and initiate the jibe.

As you move downwind, the power in the wing decreases and you have to be careful that it does not sink too much and tip into the water.

Therefore, the hand on the leading edge handle lifts the wing and the other hand grips the rear handle position under the wing. Now just grip also with the front hand and the ride continues in switch stance.
