Flag Jibe - switch stance

Jibe with the wing drifting

A switch stance jibe is a jibe that is started with a flagged wing.

The background: When riding waves, the wing is held neutrally leeward of the body with one hand on the front handle and then raised again at the end of the wave ride and held with both hands. Often, the last turn on the wave is done as a jibe to change direction.

You can also practise this technique on flat water. Simply flag the wing when riding in switch-stance and keep going by pumping the foil.

When you initiate the jibe, you will move away from the wind and reduce the air flow on the wing. This can be seen quite well in the video – the wing tip drops down. Therefore, you have to lift the wing with one hand on the front tube and the second hand under the wing.

Now just move your hand around and the change of direction is complete. Since you started the jibe in switch stance, you are now back in the normal position on the board.
