Frontside Aerial

Tutorial: how to do an aerial during a wave ride

When wingfoiling, you can jump without having to use a wave as a ramp. You can also use this technique when attempting aerials. A frontside aerial is when the front of the body is facing the wave.

This ‘Basic Aerial’ tutorial from Duotone shows how to jump on the wave with a wing in neutral position. Strictly speaking, it is even possible to practise this on flat water, but it is easier to stay in the flow on a small wave.

Flag the wing with your back hand and then initiate the jump by steering the foil down and then up.
If that works, then you can also do the aerial at the lip of the wave, as it is supposed to be done. The aerial is landed back in the wave so that you can continue your wave ride afterwards.
