Getting on the board and standing up

The best way to get on the board and start riding

When getting on a wing foil board, your back faces the wind, the wing is on the other side of the board (leeward) and is held with your back hand. You climb onto the board sideways. You use a similar technique to climbing up the side of a swimming pool.

Get up in the middle of the board, this is when the board is most stable in the water. Then position yourself with your knees in the center of the board, this is the best position for stability. After getting on, sit on your knees on the board.

Now the wing is lifted out of the water. If it is upside down, you must first turn the wing around. Depending on the position of the wing, you can steer the board. Holding the wing backwards turns the board into the wind, holding the wing forwards turns the board out of the wind. Bring the board into the crosswind position (90 degrees to the wind direction).

The wing is lifted over the head and the front hand grips the front handle position, then the back hand grips the back position. The front of the wing (leading edge) points into the wind - this is the neutral position. If you turn the wing slightly forwards, the power increases slightly and the board starts to move forwards.

Now place your front foot on the deck - as centrally as possible. Then use the power in the wing to shift the weight onto the front foot and stand up. The back foot is placed on the deck - also as centrally as possible. Your standing position is approximately shoulder width. Now you can start your ride.
