Heineken Jibe

Cool jibe variation with one-armed wing control

Here is the quick guide to the heineken jibe:

  • When initiating the heineken jibe, pull the wing upwind with the front arm over your head. The front tube aligns itself towards the wind.
  • As you turn downwind away from the wind, the actual wind and the airstream cancel each other out. The wing floats neutrally at this moment, tilts downwards and can be directed outwards by the front arm.
  • Depending on the force of the wind or your speed , the wing may react differently at this moment. In stronger winds, the wing can get more power from the top when initiating the turn and thus push against the back. That doesn't matter, because you can use this boost to accelerate through the remaining jibe.
  • In the middle of the jibe, the wing then flies guided by an arm in the outer radius of the turn. Here the airstream provides the airflow, the actual wind has no influence at this moment.
  • In the second part of the jibe, the wind then reaches back into the wing from the right side via the trailing edge. The wing slowly swings back into the normal riding position. You are moving downwind in the wind system, so the power in the wing is low. This is good because it makes it easy to control the wing.
  • On the last few meters of the turn, you get closer to the crosswind course again and the power in the wing increases. The second hand grips the boom (the handle) at the front, the other switches to the back.
