Laydown Jibe
Lay the wing flat during the jibe
In a laydown jibe (race jibe), the wing is turned upside down during the jibe and held flat above the water. This type of jibe gives you a good overview in all directions.
Here's how to do the move: Turn the wing with the front tube facing downwards, pull your front hand towards your hip, and stretch your back arm – this will make the wing lie flat. Hold the trailing edge slightly higher so that the wind cannot push into the wing from above.
In this position, you can foil almost the entire jibe. The turning of the wing happens almost automatically on the exit, as the increasing wind pressure lifts the wing that is leaning to windward. Both arms lift the wing, the rear arm yields to the wind pressure and reaches forward, while the front hand lifts the wing to head height. After turning the wing to the other side, you can continue your ride.
