Learning to Foil with an Electric Foilboard
Use foilboards with electric drives to learn how to foil faster
Learn to foil under laboratory conditions: on flat water with no wind. An electric foilboard can be used to practice balancing on the board without a wing in your hand. This means you have full control over foiling — take-off, flying, and touchdown can be practiced without any distractions.
When traveling at a constant speed in the water, shift your weight to your back leg to lift the board. Shifting your weight forward lowers the nose of the board again. Shoulder rotation and slight lateral weight shifts provide the steering impulse to the right or left.
Tip: Before standing up, you can also ride the board on your hands and knees and attempt the take-off. The low center of gravity makes it easier to control the board while you test its response to slight steering impulses. After that, it will be easier to control the board while standing.
Some surf schools use e-foilboards for training purposes. Just ask at your local surf center.
