Parawing - Jibe
The normal jibe in parawinging
Here you can watch a video tutorial from the Duotone Academy, in which Finn Spencer demonstrates how to jibe while parawinging.
The video shows both variants: the jibe with switch stance foot position (the toes point to windward before the jibe) and the jibe with normal foot position (the toes point to leeward before the jibe).
The jibe with a normal foot position is then explained step by step.
The jibe is initiated by applying pressure to the toes. It is important to keep both – the curve radius and the flight level of the foil – constant. Therefore, pick up speed beforehand in order to enter the turn with momentum.
The handle of the parawing is turned during the jibe so that the wing changes its flight direction and accelerates again after the jibe. The hands also change the grip position.
Finn often steers the parawing with one hand — this can help you to concentrate fully on foiling (changing hands makes the jibe a little more unstable). The outstretched arm also helps you to maintain your balance.
Then either continue foiling in switch stance or change your foot position to continue your ride in normal stance.
