Race Jibe

Lay your wing upside down in the turn

A slow motion video of a jibe with the wing laid upside down in the turn. Race jibe or laydown jibe is the name of this wing foil move, which is actually quite easy to ride.

Start with both hands in the upper grip. When initiating the jibe, lay the wing upside down in the turn. To do this, pull the wing down to the front of your thighs with your front hand, while your back hand aligns the end of the strut exactly with the center of the turn radius.

The back hand holds the trailing edge of the wing a little higher, because about halfway through the jibe the wind blows under the wing and helps to flip it over.

To do this, the rear hand slides forward. The wing is lifted slightly as it rises vertically due to the wind load and then flips to leeward on its own. The wing is lifted up to head height and the hands also change position. Haul the wing and continue riding - that's it.
