Race Jibe - backwinded

Noé Cuyala shows the backwinded race jibe

You should be able to foil backwinded if you want to use this variant of the race jibe. Noé Cuyala shows the backwinded race jibe to perfection in this video.

As with the normal race jibe, the wing is guided on the inside in the jibe, but in contrast, it is not laid flat during the turn. Instead, the wing is moved backwards into the 'backwinded' position (the wind blows on the wing from the other side - the top of the wing).

This wing position is familiar from the backwind ride - but with the difference that the wing is lifted away from the body during the jibe upwind and then moved over the head to leeward.

The airstream and the front tube pointing upwind again help the wing to return to normal airflow. Now all you have to do is change your grip, hauling the wing and continue foiling in switch stance.

Noé Cuyala demonstrates the backwinded race jibe to perfection in this video. In slow motion and mirrored for both directions of travel, the sequence of movements is easy to follow.
