Sinker Knee Start

Starting on small boards

Foiling on small boards with a volume of less than 70 liters is fun because you carry less weight and surface area between your body and the foil. This is ideal in flight mode, but starting becomes a challenge.

Depending on the volume, width and length, the board sinks into the water to different depths. Simply standing up and waiting for a gust no longer works.

The board must be lowered under your body in a controlled manner while you sit or squat as centrally as possible on the board. Balance is required, you can support yourself on the wing floating next to it.

Standing up begins with a gust, as Casey Hauser demonstrates here in the video.
