Sinker Start
Starting on boards with low volume
The sinker start technique is required for wing foiling as soon as the board volume in liters is smaller than the rider's body weight in kilograms. This video shows the sinker start with a 36-liter board.
Sitting on the board - legs to the right and left - the wing is guided over the head. If the power is sufficient - the stronger the wind, the better - then switch to a knee position. The body's center of gravity should remain as low as possible in the middle of the board.
The slight forward movement stabilizes the board in the water. The front foot is placed on the deck first. Use the lift in the wing to pull yourself upwards. This allows you to place your second foot on the deck and straighten up.
Depending on the volume of the board, you will be deeper in the water, but the dynamic buoyancy ensures that the board reaches the surface. Now just pump the wing and foil to get flying.
Depending on the volume of the board, it still floats below the water surface, but the dynamic buoyancy (generated by your speed) ensures that the board reaches the surface. Now just pump the wing and the foil and you're ready to go.
