Switch Stance Wingpass Tack
Tacking with the wing in tow
If only the leash wasn't always in the way... this tack is quite dynamic and works particularly well in sideshore conditions against a wave, but also works on flat water.
Without turning into a wave, you need a lot of speed, because the entire curve to windward is riden without power in the wing. The key is to foil evenly and not lose speed.
The sequence of movements differs depending on which hand you have attached the wing leash to (in the first part of the video it is the right hand, in the second part of the mirrored video it is the left hand – this shows you the switch stance wing pass tack for goofy and regular foot riders).
While foiling in switch stance and starting to turn upwind, the rear hand grabs the leading edge handle and guides the wing behind the back. The front hand also reaches behind the back from the inside of the turn, so that both hands briefly hold the handle.
Next, the leash must be brought over your head. This is the 'ugly' moment in this move. Your arm swings up, brings the leash over your head, and then back down on the inside of the turn.
Continue to hold the wing with one hand while you foil through the second part of the turn. Pull the wing up by the leading edge handle so that your front hand can grab the boom. Then grab the boom with this hand as well. It's best to start pumping immediately to keep going.
Are you riding with the wing leash attached to your waist belt? Then you can avoid the arm swing over your head. Before this turn, simply move the belt so that the leash attachment is positioned on your back.
