Slob Grab

Tweaked jump with grip on the rail

The slob grab is a jump in which the front hand grabs the edge of the toeside rail. In a normal jump, this is the leeward side. In this jump the rail is turned forward.

The term ‘slob’ refers to the position at which the hand grips the rail: at a position between the front foot and the nose of the board. If placed between the feet, it would be a ‘mute’ (or ‘weddle’) grab, and the grip on the nose of the board would be a ‘nose’ grab.

This inevitably means jumping with one hand, i.e. holding the wing in the air with one hand. To do this, move your rear hand on the boom slightly further forward before jumping, right to the center of pressure of the wing (just as you would when wing foiling with one hand).

The jump is a tweaked jump - it's much easier to catch the rail if the board is turned at least 90 degrees during the jump. A little further is even better, as you can bring the rail closer to your front hand with your back leg extended in the direction of travel and your front leg bent.

Test yourself step by step: first learn one-handed wing foiling, then a normal jump where you briefly release your front hand from the boom, and then of course practice tweaked jumps.

Then you need to overcome your fears on your first attempt. It's best not to jump quickly and far, but rather to jump high with a small wave at first. This makes landing easier if you can't turn the board back completely. Continuing to foil with the pop of the landing is then the final step in the training plan.
