Jibe - backwinded

Jibing with wing held back

In the backwind version of a jibe, you lift the wing to windward right at the start and grab it so that the rest of the jibe can be completed without any further changes of grip. With the wing held back, you stand in switch stance on the board. After turning 90 degrees, you push the trailing edge (rear edge of the wing) through the wind and can then simply continue foiling in the normal riding position.

Tip: Lifting the wing to windward is easier if you bear away to a downwind course when initiating the maneuver.
