Roadtrip Brittany 2025
Wing foiling and surfing at the spots near Penhors and on the Crozon Peninsula
Anne was back on the road in her campervan in October and summarizes her two-week trip to France in this report.
On my recent road trip to Portugal, I unfortunately didn’t have much luck finding good waves for surfing, so I headed back to Brittany in October. My friends, who had already been there for a while, texted me just before I left: "Don’t forget to pack shorts". And sure enough, contrary to what I’d expected, I ended up wearing shorts quite often for that time of year in Brittany.
The first stop on this trip was Penhors. During the off-season, overnight stays in the parking lot right by the sea are tolerated, so I had a great base for the coming days. Just a quick walk across the street and I was at the beach. This time I had better luck with the waves and enjoyed four days of great conditions in a row, plus endless sunshine.
There was even time for a bike ride along the coast, with its beautiful beaches and past two cultural landmarks. In the evening, you could still sit in shorts on one of the many benches on the beach and watch the activity by and on the water. The beautiful sunsets were the icing on the cake.
My friends, who’d been enjoying great conditions for three weeks, had to head home, so I set off from Penhors for Crozon to meet up with some other friends there. Here, the waves were often accompanied by a light breeze from the east, so I was able to go wing foiling as well.
I was kept completely busy. Surfing in the morning and wing foiling at noon, or wing foiling in the morning followed by a bike tour, or all three sports in a single day - and all of it in perfect weather. The sun shone from morning till night, making the colors in Goulien Bay look almost unreal in their beauty.
The morning before I left, it rained quite heavily - the first rain in twelve days. My hopes for one last nice session to say goodbye were fading fast, but after a cozy cup of tea in a lounge in Crozon, the clouds actually began to clear, and I was able to get out on the water one last time with my surfboard.
My hopes for some windsurfing days didn't pan out on this road trip, but even without them, I couldn't have asked for much better. Every day, I got to exercise with friends under bright sunshine, blue skies, and unusually high temperatures for this time of year.
Above all, the memories and images of the indescribably beautiful colors from this vacation will help me get through the gray and gloomy days of fall and winter until I set off on my next wonderful trip.
