Backside Air
Backside aerial in flat water
A backside air is a small jump that is initiated from a turn towards upwind direction. The board is turned 90 degrees in the air so that you land on a light downwind course.
Basically like a backside aerial on a wave ride (if you don't jump it with a flagged wing, but with both hands on the handles).
Imaginary: Jumping off the wave, pushing the board upwind in an arc and then landing back in the same wave on the descent. This can also be practiced well on flat water, as you can see in this video.
Backside airs are a good preliminary exercise for the raley, where the board is guided extremely upwind and you fly parallel to the water with your body stretched out.
