Foil Pumping Starting Technique

How to get up on the foil quickly

Effective pumping gets you up and foiling quickly, even in light winds - watch this video to see the technique.

In a nutshell: You accelerate the board by pulling the wing, which puts weight on the board and pushes it forward. With each new pump stroke, you get faster until the foil lifts you out of the water.

At first, you will need a little more wind to get started. With time, you will develop a routine for coordinating the pumping movements of the wing and board. Then even a small gust field will be enough to get you flying.

Always wait for the right gust, because if there is too little wind for foiling, you waste your energy — pumping is exhausting, like a short sprint when running.
