One Handed Jibe

Flying through a jibe with one hand off the boom/handle

If you have mastered the jibe when wing foiling, you will quickly realize that you can also ride this transition one handed.

The hand must be able to grip the boom (or the handle) exactly where the point of pressure of the wing is located (this does not work with all wings).

You can easily find out whether this is possible with your wing and where exactly you have to place your hand. Just try to ride one handed on a crosswind leg.

Here are the instructions for the one handed jibe: Grip the wing with the front hand in the underhand grip and release the back hand when initiating the jibe. The wing can be controlled and turned with one hand once you have found the right grip position.

The hand can also be positioned a little further in front when initiating the jibe. During the the jibe: release the handle slightly and slide back into the correct position. Hold the arm a little bit higher than for a normal jibe and try to keep the wing flying as neutrally as possible.

Once you have found the right grip position, you can continue riding with one hand when exiting the jibe. To hold the wing with both hands again, the front hand grips first, then the rear hand slips into the normal position.
