Pumping with flagged wing

Training for downwind rides

Here you can see how to foil in switch stance with a flagged wing. The wing is held with the leading hand on the leading edge handle and floats neutrally leeward next to the body.

To keep up your momentum, your body has to perform intense pumping movements, which are converted into propulsion by the foil. This means that the energy comes from the body.

If you want to stay on the board for longer, you should look for small wind waves and ride them diagonally downwind (away from the wind).

This is a perfect training for longer downwind rides, where the aim is to glide on the foil for as long as possible without any propulsion from the wing. If you can pump with a flagged wing, you can easily pump from one wave to the other.
