Switch Stance Jibe

Jibing in switch stance

Here you can see a jibe initiated in switch stance (toeside, toes facing the wind). To do this, you should have mastered the following: (1) foiling in switch stance and (2) one-handed foiling in switch stance.

The easiest way to get into the switch stance riding position is after a normal jibe, where you then continue foiling in switch stance. Once you have mastered these preliminary steps, it is relatively easy to perform a switch stance jibe. And it's pretty simple if you concentrate on the essentials – clean foiling.

In the video, you can see that a balanced wing requires virtually no steering. When sailing away from the wind to leeward, the power of the wind in the wing decreases and you can hold it with one hand during the jibe and turn it in the other direction. Only after the wing has turned does the rear hand grab the boom, while the front hand continues to slide forward.

The advantage of one-handed wing control is obvious: instead of having to concentrate on holding the wing with both hands and quickly repositioning it in front of your head while simultaneously riding the curve in a lean-back position, you can focus entirely on cleanly foiling through the turn.

Maintain a steady altitude and radius to execute a clean jibe, lose less speed as a result, and then simply pull in the wing again on the new course.
