Wingfoil technique: Turning around

How to turn the board in the other direction of travel

Basic wingfoil riding technique for beginners: Here you can see how to stop, get off the board and turn the board in the water while lying on your side.

Why get off the board? For beginners, this is the easiest way to turn around at the very beginning. Simply step off the board upwind, being careful not to hit the foil with your legs and feet, and turn the board into the other direction by turning the nose out of the wind. Get back on, stand up, and continue riding.

If you don't want to get off the board completely, you can also sit on the deck of the board. Face the nose, with one leg hanging to the right and one to the left of the board. This is a stable position that allows you to keep your balance. Now you can paddle with your hands, row with your feet or lift the wing slightly to turn the board in the other direction.

The video also shows how to turn the wingfoil board while squatting and standing.

Turning the board while standing with the wing in your hands is not easy at first. Even on large-volume boards, beginners will only be able to do it with a little practice. Just give it a try – every practical training session increases your sense of balance.
