Wing Foil Jibe

Changing the direction of riding when wing foiling - the jibe in the normal foot position

This video shows the wing foil jibe in slow motion and for both directions of travel. The jibe ridden in the normal foot position is the basic maneuver for changing the riding direction.

Tips for learning the jibe

Fully concentrate on foiling. Try to make the turn with a constant radius and also keep the altitude constant - as if the wing was not even there.

Don't lean into the turn (as you would normally do when carving on a surfboard, snowboard or skateboard), but stay as close as possible to the board and steer it into a very gentle turn.

The power of the wing is only present when entering the jibe and decreases the deeper you go into the turn. In the middle of the turn, the rear hand simply lets go and grips the front handle, then the other hand grips the rear. The wing swings almost automatically in the new direction and the power only builds up again when you slowly steer from downwind to crosswind.

The grip should be changed almost blindly. At the beginning, it helps immensely to focus only on the imaginary curve line you want to ride along.
