Upwind 360
The dynamic variant without a back-winded wing
The upwind 360 is a full-foil 360-degree turn into the wind. In this 'How to Upwind 360' tutorial, Malo Guenole shows the dynamic version without the wing held back.
To do this, the wing is initially guided neutrally over the head, as in a normal tack. After the first 180 degrees, the most difficult part of the exercise follows: at the same time as initiating the second turn, the wing must be placed in the turn with the leading edge first. Basically the same as initiating a switch stance duck jibe, but with the difference that the grip position of the hands is reversed.
This should not be a problem, as full attention must be paid to the wind that is exerted on the wing when it is lowered and turned. However, this all happens downwind so that the power of the wind is not too strong.
Then quickly turn the wing back to the riding position, as the hands are already in the correct position. During this backside turn, also pay attention to clean foiling.
